Vintage French Red Striped Torchon

Dating from the early 20th Century, I have some large French torchons available to purchase individually. Made of hemp, they have red stripe detailing and are embroidered with 'C.C' initials.

French linens were often embroidered with family initials to symbolise their quality and family ownership, or to be gifted when married. The initials here have been embroidered with cross stitch.

These torchons - otherwise known as tea towels or dishcloths - are fabulous quality. They hardly appear to have been used, with just a few imperfections in the fabric noticeable, and each has a little fabric hook for hanging.

They can be used as is, but the material and large size means they are also excellent to use for upholstery or cushions.
