A rare complete English advertising caviar pot for the world famous Fortnum & Mason's in Piccadilly, London, dating from the mid to late 20th Century.
This wonderful white ironstone Fortnum & Mason's caviar is a great example, featuring advertising on both sides of the pot. Appointed as grocers to the Royal household, the Royal Warrant appears on the lid of this wonderful pot, together with the company's address. Fortnum & Mason's is an iconic British brand. Available in a range of sizes, this is one of the smaller sized pots that would have been available, and is complete with a sturgeon transfer on the other side of the pot.
Caviar would only have only been available to purchase at the Piccadilly store and these white ceramic containers were also considered throwaway items. So these little pots are now extremely hard to find. Bearing the Crown Devon mark on its base, the white ironstone was fairly thick on them, making them quite durable little pots.
In overall good and clean condition, this pot is a nice example with no chips or cracks. There is light crazing all over, plus some odd scuff marks. There is some fading to the transfer logo in places but this isn't too significant.
