Victorian Silver Plated Hatelet - Sturgeon

A stunning example of a rarely seen silver plated pie markers or hatelets, in a classical design featuring two sturgeons.

English in origin, this hatelet is marked although I do not recognise the maker. It dated to the late 19th Century. Hatelets were used as pie markers in large elaborate pies, either to the show guests which type of flling was in the pie or to add a decorative finishing touch. They were also used as brochettes, or skewers for grilled food.

Silver plated, this has some mild tarnishing plus light scratches to the skewer section. However, on the whole this is in lovely clean condition.
