This French ironstone compote dish, dating from the late 19th Century, features a pretty blue transferware border and central motif, and has gorgeous timeworn colouring.
Made by Longwy, it features the Rhodes pattern around its border and in a central motif. Raised on a small footed stand, this terre de fer cake plate has also aged perfectly with lovely timeworn coffee colouring all over.
Aside from the lightly stained crazing all over, this cake stand is otherwise in excellent condition, with no cracks or chips. There are some aged scuffs and nibbles to the edge of the plate but these complement the overall aged look of the piece.
Compote dishes like this are great for use as a kitchen centrepiece, for fruit like lemons or as a large dessert bowl.
