Stunning Antique Victorian Bread Knife - Deeply Carved Ivy, Wheat and Barley
This is a fabulous and very rarely seen example of an exceptionally carved antique Victorian carved wooden English bread knife.
Dating from the mid to late 1800s, this bread knife is a stunning example with deep and multi layered carved detail. Featuring ivy leaves layered on top of each other, they run down the handle and meet a wheat sheaf and barley strands. A knife of this quality was most likely intended as a wedding gift, and these subjects were often carved together to symbolise unity. The handle also has a wonderful rich colour and has a nice finial on the end of it. The join to the steel blade is quality and sound. There is some tarnishing to the blade but this is very common from when they have come into contact with water.
In overall excellent condition, this carved bread knife is perfect for day to day use in the kitchen or shown off on display as part of an antique kitchenalia or treen collection.
