Striking Antique Floral Oil Painting - Marigolds

Dating to the early 20th Century, this Dutch or Belgian piece uses thick and confident impasto strokes to bring the burnt orange marigolds to life, sitting in a large stoneware vase. It's a fabulous moody palette of greens, oranges and browns.

There are two signatures in the bottom left hand corner of the painting. When signatures appear like this, the top one is usually the artist, in this case AM Brugmans, and the lower signature was often included by those cataloguing pieces or evaluating the work.

It's in fair condition for its age. There are a couple of small areas to top of the painting where the paint appears to be a little damaged, although this doesn't affect the visual impact of the painting in any way. Attached to the frame with its original fittings, there are a couple of small areas where the canvas has come loose from these at the edge of the frame, although it still fits the frame well.  

A lovely honest piece, perfect for adding a moodier feel to a room.
