A very sweet, small example of a later Victorian butter stamp.
This mould is decorated with a botanical fern leaf which takes up much of the space on the mould, and it is surrounded by a small decorative border.
Carved from a single section of sycamore, there has been wear to the carving over the years but it is still recognisable and usable. The surrounding casing has faded a little in colour and there are also some patches of staining, as well as some minor knocks to the edge of the handle.
On the whole, though, this is in very good condition and is a highly decorative piece. The colour and patina could be further enhanced by regular waxing.
Width, 5.5cm; Length, 4.5cm
