This is a listing for a very rare French confiture advertising pot for Julien Damoy, dating from around 1900.
Dating from the very start of the 20th Century, this French ironstone advertising pot is a scarce survivor and has a uniquely timeworn coffee coloured patina to it. It is also a very rare extra large size, capable of holding four pounds of marmalade.
The Julien Damoy jam or confiture pots came in a range of different styles. This sepia coloured transfer features the Julien Damoy trademark in the centre, and details the shops and factories where it was available to purchase and was made. The timeworn colouring on this example really blends in with the print, which is still recognisable. The pot itself is very heavy and sturdy, a signature of the French examples.
This extra large four pound Confiture pot is a nice weathered example, with a fabulous worn patina. Considered throwaway items at the time, this was recently dug up from an old French dumping ground. This antique French pot therefore bears some of the scars of its time underground, most notably through darker coffee coloured staining all over.
There is also a chip to the side of the top rim and a hairline crack at the rear of the pot, as well as a small number of small knock marks. However, being made as a sturdy and solid item, it’s still in stable condition. Its imposing larger size also makes it a fabulous display piece.
Dimensions:
Height, 15.5cm
Diameter, 11.5cm
