Rustic Decorative Antique French Cast Iron Trug

This is a highly decorative large antique cast iron trug, with weathering and wear exposing a fantastic patina of the layers of paint this piece has had over the years.

Dating from the early 20th Century, this is a versatile decorative item which could be used around the home or garden in a number of ways. Perhaps as a planter or for a large display of dried flowers.

In worn and weathered condition, this cast iron carrier is nonetheless still in sturdy condition. There is some wear to the handle but there are no holes and it is still a very practical item to use.

The different layers of paint both on the outside and inside this trug have worn away over the years. This has exposed different layers of paint, including yellows, red and green, as well as the natural cast iron base. There also appears to be the remnants of a number on each side. There is some oxidisation in places, most notably on the handle, rims and edges of the carrier. But again this adds to the patina of the piece.
