This is a listing for a small antique deeply carved butter stamp with crown decoration. Dating from the late Victorian period, butter stamps are very rarely seen with crowns carved on them.
A small size, this butter mould is in very good condition, with a light patina and just a small patch of staining and a small knock to the outer casing. This is a very small example, although this makes the depth and detail of the carving quite impressive.
The carving itself is still well defined, with the border and outline of the crown and jewels on top being quite clear. There is less definition on the crown itself, which perhaps indicates that this example was possibly completed by an apprentice.
The stamp is unwaxed and therefore is good for continued use if desired. Butter stamps like these also make excellent decorative pieces of kitchenalia, and are also good to use either for decorating small butter pats or as use as biscuit stamps (they work particularly well on shortbread).
