Rare Octagonal Shaped Antique Victorian Breadboard

This is a rarely seen example of an antique octagonal (eight sided) shaped English carved bread board, with decorative carving of overlapping leaves around the border. It dates from the late Victorian period. The carving is still clear and its octagonal shape is also very rare.

Often given as wedding presents in Victorian times, the more elaborate shapes made them stand out as gifts of virtue.

This example has a lovely honey coloured patina to it and is in very good condition. Although there are knife marks from use, these aren’t overly notable. And the board sits flat, making it perfect for ongoing use.
