This is a listing for a very rarely seen French confiture advertising pot for Ch. Robardelle, dating from around 1900, in the extra large three pound size.
Dating from the very start of the 20th Century, this French ironstone advertising pot is a scarce survivor. With natural timeworn charm, it is nonetheless still in overall clean condition with a fantastic teal green under glaze transfer print.
The Robardelle jam or confiture pots came in a range of different styles. This teal coloured transfer is a real beauty, with the framed logo wrapping itself around the front of the pot. The ironstone pot itself is very heavy and sturdy, a signature of the French examples.
This extra large three pound Confiture pot is an excellent example, with the transfer still very clear. There is some light coffee coloured discolouration to the middle and top half of the pot but overall it is still quite clean. There is a small chip to the base rim, as well as some wear and nibbles to the top rim, some of which have discoloured with age. There is also a fine and tight hairline crack on one side of the pot which is approximately 6cm in length. This can't be felt and the pot is still very stable. In fact, it blends in with some light crazing around the top rim.
Bearing a lovely teal coloured maker's mark of the KG Luneville factory on its base, this is a fabulous example of an antique French jam or marmalade pot. I've only ever had one available for sale previously. It would make a great starter piece in a collection and they are also ideal for use around the home as decorative pieces.
Height, 15.5cm; Diameter, 11cm
