Rare Large Sized Antique French Felix Potin Saindoux Advertising Pot
Rare Large Sized Antique French Felix Potin Saindoux Advertising Pot
This is a listing for a lovely rare and scarcely seen Frenc advertising pot for Felix Potin ‘Saindoux’, dating from around 1900, in a large two pound size.
Dating from the very start of the 20th Century, this French ironstone advertising pot is a scarce survivor and is in wonderful condition. It has weathered and stained over the years but this blends in beautifully with the strong black typography and makes it a very unique and special timeworn piece.
The ironstone pot itself is very heavy and sturdy, a signature of the French examples. And it is an extra large three pound example. The under glaze transfer print, showing the product ‘Saindoux’ - lard - as well as the Felix Potin branding, is still very clear. The pot itself has crazing all over which has taken on a unique dark coloured and weathered staining. But the pot is in excellent condition, with just some minor nibbles to the base rim and no significant chips or cracks.
The unique colouring is no doubt a result of the pot’s time underground, as it was considered a throwaway away and was dumped after use.
Bearing the imprinted F.P initials on its base, together with the size marker (0.30 kilos) and the Luneville factory mark, this is a fabulous example of an antique French ironstone pot. It would make a great starter piece in a collection and they are also ideal for use around the home as decorative pieces.
