Rare Extra Tall Edwardian White Ironstone 'Rice' Storage Jar
Rare Extra Tall Edwardian White Ironstone 'Rice' Storage Jar
This is an unusually tall and and highly collectable antique Edwardian white ironstone storage jar or canister for "RICE", in nice condition with its original lid.
These white ironstone storage jars were popular when foodstuffs were often sold in loose measures in local grocers shops. This Edwardian example dates from to the early 1900s. It has a rich and timeworn patina, and the dark blur typography on the front in under glaze transfer print is still very clear.
This banded storage jar is in good overall condition. There are no cracks or hairlines but it has been well used over the years. There is light staining and crazing all over the pot and lid, plus some scuff marks to the top rim. But these features add an authentic timeworn charm.
Overall, though, it's a great size, is still very sturdy and is a popular subject which makes it very useful today. A beautiful piece either to start or add to a collection of white ironstone antique storage jars.
