A delightful good large family sized example of the Grimwades Quick Cooker Pudding Bowl, dating from the early 20th Century.

Produced by Grimwades, this company was renowned for using all available space on their kitchenware ranges to advertise their products and provide practical tips and advice on how to use them. An earlier example of the Quick Cooker bowl, this is a rare example which has advertising on the underside of the lid for other products in the Grimwades range - including the pie funnel, pie dish, milk bowl and jug.

Made of white ironstone, these pudding bowls were designed to steam puddings from the inside (with a funnel providing direct heat to the middle of the bowl) as well as the outside, therefore resulting in an overall quicker cooking time. Hence its name as the ‘Quick Cooker’. All of the instructions for use are printed on the outside of the pot.

This bowl does show signs of its age with crazing all over, much of which has lightly stained (especially on the inside of the bowl). The transfer print has blurred in places on the lid but is still recognisable. The lid is also a bit lighter in colour than the base, but I suspect this is because the base shows more wear from use, with the contents kept inside. There is also a tight hairline to the edge of the bowl, but this wouldn't affect use. There are also some odd firing marks.

Height, 13.5cm; Width, 19.5cm
