Rare Antique Victorian Ironstone Jelly Mould - Turkey and Trees
Rare Antique Victorian Ironstone Jelly Mould - Turkey and Trees
A very sweet and rare example of a large antique Victorian white ironstone jelly mould, with a rarely seen Christmas theme featuring a large turkey and trees.
Likely to date from the late 19th Century, by which point Christmas trees had become a firmly established tradition, pictorial ironstone jelly moulds like this are very rarely seen. This Christmas scene is a very rare subject and is an especially nice item to have to make terrines or jellies, or to simply have displayed, during the festive period. With lots of details, it’s a beautifully made piece.
Considering its age, this mould is in remarkably good condition with no chips or cracks. There is a firing fault in the middle of the turkey but this does not penetrate through. There is also lightly stained crazing all over the piece, as well as some knocks to the edge and base rim of the mould, again which have stained. On the whole, though, it is a sturdy and heavy piece with a delightful subject.
Antique and vintage jelly moulds are highly collectable. Not only are they still usable today (with care), with the making and presentation of a jelly an event in itself, but they also look fabulous as part of a kitchenalia collection.
