Rare Antique Victorian Carved Bread Knife - Intricate Wheat Pattern

An exceptional example of a large and nicely carved antique Victorian bread knife, with intricate wheat detail on its handle.

This steel bladed carved bread knife is a great example of the craftsmanship that went into producing carved treen items at the time. The wheat detail on the handle is nicely carved and has a lovely finial end. But it stands out through the addition of symmetrical lines running horizontally which encircle the handle. This seemingly simple pattern would have involved a great deal of effort for the carver. The result is a beautifully tactile piece of antique treen.

Although there is some light tarnishing to the blade (a result of contact with water over the years) this bread knife is otherwise in excellent condition.
