A rarely seen example of a postal egg box made by the Dairy Outfit Company in the 1930s.

This travelling eggs box is an excellent display piece to have around home. Each side of the box is clearly printed EGGS, in black typography, and an original address label still appears on the top of the box.

The Dairy Outfit Company produced a range of shop equipment, including egg boxes in a range of sizes. This ‘Hammock’ box was designed to be able to send eggs by post. Capable of holding one dozen eggs, each compartment was lined with felt in order to protect the eggs.

This is a rustic and timeworn example. There are old - but treated - worm holes across the piece, and some of the wood on the top edges of the box has lightly warped, with some of the different layers lightly peeling away, and a small amount of loss in one corner of the top. But the black typography remains strong and clear, and the original address label indicated it was originally sent to a university hall of residence, perhaps from a concerned mother. The original leather strap, which would have fixed the box closed, is unfortunately missing.

Although the felt has worn a little in places, this example is largely in tact. But it is quite dirty and dusty in places. This could be removed if desired.

A wonderful piece of antique kitchenalia for the home.
