This is a lovely large rare tile made by Gien in around 1900.

Made into a trivet or pot stand, with a faux bamboo chinoiserie wooden surround, this is a highly decorative piece. The tile itself is a very rare example, showing sheep resting under a tree in a field on the outskirts of a French village.

There is a small amount of damage which means some repair work would be needed if you wanted to continue to use this as a trivet, with one of the wooden legs missing. It is nonetheless still perfect for display in the home.

Otherwise, this tile is in fair condition. There is a fine crack to the surface of the tile on the right hand side, but this doesn't penetrate all the way through the tile. There is also one old worm hole on the frame, but this has been treated. The surface of the tile has some light wear and scuff marks but nothing substantial.
