Rare Antique French White Ironstone Soup Tureen
Rare Antique French White Ironstone Soup Tureen
A lovely example of a rarely seen oval shaped antique early 20th Century lidded white ironstone tureen.
This is a beautiful antique French piece, with scalloped handles and a nice feature handle on the lid. It has aged beautifully and has a natural timeworn charm to it, with buttery colouring in places, especially on the base. It is and extra large size and, being made of ironstone, it is a sturdy piece. Complete with its original lid, there is space for a ladle to be used with it.
Although there is some wear to the tureen in places, most notably on the base where it has discoloured slightly and is now a buttery colour in places, and also on each of the handles which have some nibbles to the glaze, the soupiere is in overall very good condition. There are no chips and it is solid and stable. There are two fine and tight hairlines in the rounded section of the base but this doesn't affect the use of the dish. The inside of the bowl also has some light staining from where it has been used over the years.
These tureens are excellent to use for display around the home and are perfect for adding a French country or rustic farmhouse touch to any interior.
