Rare Antique English Square Carved Wooden Breadboard
Rare Antique English Square Carved Wooden Breadboard
This is a rarely seen example of a square breadboard dating from the early to mid 20th Century.
A difficult shape to turn, square breadboards like this aren't often seen as the wood would split or warp. This example, however, still sits perfectly flat. With a decorative chip carved geometric pattern in each corner, this is a lovely piece for display or ongoing use.
This board has a scrubbed finish, meaning it has a lighter appearance in colour than if it were waxed. But this means it is an excellent piece for ongoing use. If desired, the piece could once again be waxed. It has been well used, with lots of knife marks all over the face of the board and some consequent wear to the carving. But this adds to the patination on the piece.
