Rare Antique Edwardian Balloon Yeast Grocers Platter

An exceptionally rare extra large white ironstone grocers shop display plate, advertising “Balloon” yeast, dating from around 1910.

This Edwardian butchers display platter is a wonderful large and useful size. Featuring fantastic underglaze black transfer print advertising for Balloon Yeast, made by the Home Yeast Co Ltd of Leeds, it is a striking piece of antique advertising. The standout feature is the balloon in the middle, with the slogan 'Never Done Rising'

Very few of these platters come available for sale, making this a wonderful item to add to a white ironstone or kitchenalia collection.

Designed to be placed in a grocers shop window, the eye catching black advertising was designed to catch attention, and would have been used to display the yeast on. 

This is a very rare example and I have only ever seen one other with the same advertising. It is also a larger example than most you see. Considering its age, it is in fair condition. But there is some damage, which is reflected in the price (at more than half of what it would be in excellent condition) 

Most notably, there is a crack running down the top left hand side of the plate. This is stable and does appear to have been glued at the back but nonetheless it is noticeable. There is also some aged staining on the bottom half of the plate, no doubt from where it would have been in daily use in a shop setting. There are also some scuff marks to the edge and back, as well as light crazing all over.

Nonetheless, this is a substantial piece of antique ironstone advertising.
