A wonderful late 19th Century large plain white ironstone foot bath, ideal for display around the home or for use as a planter.
Dating from around the 1880s, this footbath bears a mark for renowned Belgian ironstone makers Boch Les Freres La Louviere. Although there is some damage, this is reflected in the price of this piece and it is in overall clean condition.
An imposing size, footbaths like this are rarely available. There are scuff marks from use, plus light crazing all over. Some of this has stained in places, although this is more notable on the inside and especially the base where it has taken on a burnt orange colouring. Overall, the main part of the outer footbath is clean. There are no chips.
Most notably, there is a significant hairline on the back of the piece which runs approximately half way down. There is also a smaller hairline on one end, although this is tighter. While I wouldn't recommend filling this footbath with water, it nonetheless has many more years left as a decorative piece.
Overall, it’s a great antique piece, the size of which a real sense of grandeur used around the home in modern times.
