Rare Antique 1930s Tongue Dish by Burleigh
Rare Antique 1930s Tongue Dish by Burleigh
A wonderful rare example of a 1930s English tongue dish, produced by Burleigh in their striking green and pink Nizam pattern
This tongue plate has striking pink typography across the front, reading "Tongue Dish", and is surrounded by a striking oriental pattern. At that time, tongue was a popular dish to eat. This plate would have been used to serve it up to a family or in butchers' shops as part of their displays.
These antique tongue plates make such interesting display pieces and offer a fascinating insight into the past. This example is in very good overall condition, with no cracks or chips. There is some lightly stained crazing, and light fading in places, most notably the gold trim rim and the text. But it all quite clear and recognisable still.
