A rare opportunity to purchase a Brown & Polson white ironstone corn flour blancmange mould which is also embossed with the B & P mark inside the mould, dating from the 1920s.

Brown & Polson's were the first company to manufacture corn flour in Britain in the mid 1800s. And they were quick to realise the benefits of advertising their products in items used regularly in kitchens across the country. They would often print recipes on to common pieces of kitchenalia, illustrating how their products could be used as an ingredient, advertising their range of products at the same time. In some examples, they also took their advertising much further, leaving their initials on the final products that were produced too, as is the case with this piece.

While it is fairly common to come across the corn flour moulds in varying shapes and sizes, it is very hard to find them with the Brown & Polson mark also inside the mould itself as in this piece.

This mould is for their Corn Flour Blanc-Mange. It features the recipe in black transfer print on one side of the mould. These pieces really stand out proudly on display in a modern kitchen, and they are still very durable for use as a jelly or jello mould today too.

The mould is in very good condition, with no cracks or chips. There is light crazing all over which has a light coffee coloured staining to the outside and base rim, as well as some marks to the top, but these minor flaws add natural timeworn charm to the piece.
