Such a special piece, this French provencal cheese mould dates from the 19th Century and is a very rare find. With the faded green glaze blending with the terracotta, it's worn and unique patina makes it a lovely decorative piece for the home.
Dating from the early to mid 19th Century, this polyglobe mould was originally designed as a mould for making faisselle cheese, with the pierced holes allowing they whey to drain away. Each section created a different wheel of cheese, and has a different pattern in the base of the mould. Sacred hearts and flowers can be seen in the base of the mould.
A great, sturdy piece, it has a rustic finish from where the glaze has come away. But it's lovely seeing the pink of the terracotta peep through. The mould is also in excellent condition with no cracks. There are a couple of areas where you can see the terracotta has been lightly knocked or scratched but, again, these add to its rustic charm.
