Large Vintage French Wooden Spice Chest

A lovely and rare example of a mid Century large treen French spice cabinet featuring five drawers with their original labels. 

The spice chest has large drawers for Girolfes (cloves), Canelle (Cinnamon), Poivre (pepper), Muscades (Nutmeg) and Laurier (Nutmeg). 

It's rare to see French versions of these spice chests. This one stands out in its larger size and the carved back panel.

The chest is in good working order and is a solid and sturdy piece which is still good for many more years of use. The back panel has a split in the middle of it but the whole chest is secure, and can still be hung out or left to stand on display. There is also a small section of the 'Canelle' label missing, although the name is still recognisable.

Nonetheless, the wood has a rich honey coloured patina to it and this is a lovely piece of French kitchenalia.
