An excellent example of a mid 20th Century housemaids tidy box, perfect for storage or decorative purposes around the home.

Carrying the Royal Cypher, ER for Queen Elizabeth II, on its base, this treen housemaids bucket dates to 1954. The maker's name (Wood) is also on the base, together with a 1954 date stamp. Originally used by maids to carry cleaning equipment around the house, it is a sturdy large wooden box with a large cast iron handle.

In modern times, these still make excellent boxes to keep cleaning bottles and cloths tidy, but they are useful for any type of storage or, with a wonderful rich colouring, it’s also perfect simply for decorative purposes.

This box is complete with its original lid and is in excellent condition. The colouring of the wood is very rich with a wonderful patination. The original case iron joins are in place around all four corners of this box, and it is free from repair work. There are some scuffs to the base but this is to be expected from where it would have been used.

Height, 22cm (37cm to top of handle); Length, 35cm (29.5cm at base); Width, 28cm (19cm at base)
