A stunning example of a large teal coloured soupiere or tureen, dating to around 1900.
Sitting on a raised pedestal, this is an unusually shaped soupiere bowl, and has a grandeur and elegance to its shape. Produced by the Clairefontaine facory, the 'Medicis' pattern running across this piece, with flowing floral garlands, adds to this.
Over time, this piece has crazed and some of this has lightly stained to a light buttery colour, adding a beautiful timeworn appearance. This is more notable inside the bowl itself, from where it woud have been used.
There are small chips to the underside rim of both the bowl and the lid, but these aren't overly notable and otherwise there is no other damage.
