This is a quality piece of antique treen kitchenalia dating from the late nineteenth Century, with rarely seen beautifully detailed carving of a cow by a gate in a meadow.
This large sized hardwood butter stamp or butter mould has a fantastic rich colour and patina, with the carving of a cow in a meadow in lovely detail.
The carvings on stamps like these often denoted the type of farm the butter came from. Unsurprisingly, a cow signified a predominantly dairy farm.
Antique butter stamps look lovely displayed as part of a kitchenalia collection. And they are also good to use as biscuit stamps; they work particularly well on shortbread.
The butter print is in good condition considering its age. The face of the stamp is in excellent condition still. There is an old age crack on the back and side of the mould but this isn't significant. This can be seen on the edge of the stamp's face across the border but isn't overly notable.
Diameter, 12cm; Height, 9cm
