Large Antique Victorian Banded White Ironstone Storage Jar - Rice

A highly collectable Victorian large banded white ironstone storage jar for "RICE", in nice condition with its original lid.

These white ironstone storage jars were popular when foodstuffs were often sold in loose measures in local grocers shops. This Victorian example dates from the late 1800s and has beautiful scroll script typography on the front in black transfer print which is still very clear.

This banded storage jar is in very good overall condition. There are no cracks or chips. It has a lovely lightly timeworn appearance with crazing all over which has lightly stained in places, most notably nearer the top of the jar. There is also a small splash of blue ink on the back of the pot, which was a small fault from the time of production.

It's a great large size and is a popular subject which makes it very useful today.  A beautiful piece either to start or add to a collection of white ironstone antique storage jars.
