A fine example of a large French early 20th shop counter glass display jar, used to display sweets in an épicerie shop.
This deceivingly large glass jar would have sat on shop counters, advertising the sweets for sale and having them available for customers to sample.
The large domed lid on this jar is a striking feature, with moulded details on the top of the handle too. A maker’s mark is imprinted on the side of the jar, although I don’t recognise this.
A previous owner has since filled the jar with a shell collection, including some large beautiful examples. Depending on your location, these can possibly be included in the sale of the jar (subject to any customs restrictions) but, given their fragility, I cannot guarantee that they won’t be damaged in transit.
In excellent condition, there are just a couple of small air bubbles on one side of the jar and some minor surface scratches. It is a heavy and sturdy jar.

Height - 34cm overall (the base is 25.5cm)
Width - 14cm (base is 13cm wide)
