This is a listing for an antique Edwardian grocers price sign. A wonderful piece of antique shop advertising ephemera, which is a little larger than those you normally see.
Made of tin, with an enamel face, the use of bold font and vibrant colours really stand out on these antique pieces. I can just imagine how colourful the food displays would have looked with an array of signs like this on display in the shops.
The dark and light blue colours on this example contrast beautifully against each other, and are complemented by the gold trim border. Whilst this trim has largely worn away around the edge of the sign, the border of the number 5 is still very clear.
Dating from around 1900, this grocers spike is in good condition for its age. There are some scratches and knocks to the enamel, as well as oxidisation in places. However, the colouring and typography is still very clear. It would make a wonderful display item as part of a kitchenalia collection or hung on a kitchen wall.
