French Antique White Ironstone Pyrogene or Match Striker

A nice example of an antique French white ironstone match striker - or pyrogene in French.

A gorgeous and tactile home accessory, these were originally designed to be used in cafes or bars, where it would sit upon a bar top filled up with matches in its centre, which could then be struck alight on the outside ridges.

A heavyweight piece, this does show some minor signs of wear with some nibbles to the base and top rims. There is also wear to the ridges where this has been used.
