French Antique Brulot Cup with Blue Detailing

This is a listing for a wonderful antique early 20th Century French brulot coffee cup.

Used in bistros and cafes, coffee was an expensive commodity at the time and was served in thick cups to help keep it warm and to be at less risk of spillages. The base of these cups was indented to have a serving of brandy in afterwards, which would have been warmed by the coffee.

Considering its age, this cup is in good condition. In white ironstone, but with blue striped markings and decoration on the handle, it is a very attractive piece. There are no cracks but there are some chips and nibbles. The glazing has also crazed and lightly stained all over, but this adds a unique timeworn charm.
