This is a quality piece of antique treen kitchenalia dating from the nineteenth Century, with a beautiful floral design and intricate border
Such a fine example, this hardwood butter stamp or butter mould is rich in colour. The design is rare and unusual, and I think may be representative of an Irish floral design. As well as the three leaves, there is foliage underneath and it is flanked by tiny clovers on each side. The carved border is worthy of admiration in its own right, with several different layers to it. It's a piece of excellent craftsmanship dating from around 1880.
Antique butter stamps look lovely displayed as part of a kitchenalia collection. They are also excellent used in the modern kitchen as biscuit stamps. They work particularly well on shortbread.
The butter print is in excellent overall condition, with a rich colour to the wood. The stamp is carved from one piece of wood, with the handle an integral part of the piece. There are some minor old knocks to the outer section, plus some old residue in places but it is nonetheless in excellent condition.
