Decorative Hand Painted French Ironstone Compote Dish
Decorative Hand Painted French Ironstone Compote Dish
A lovely example of a French white ironstone compote dish, featuring a hand painted decorative border of berries and foliage.
Dating from the early 20th Century, this footed compote dish makes a wonderful decorative feature plate, especially at the Christmas table with the border similar to holly and ivy. This is a lovely aged and weathered French ironstone compote dish, with a timeworn charm and patina.
The plate features a French maker's mark on its base. It is in very good condition, with no chips or cracks, but there is age related staining and marks to the piece commensurate with its use. Most notably, there is some staining to the middle of the plate and wear to the edge rim. But these features combine to give it a natural antique appearance.
Footed dishes like this are great for use as a kitchen centrepiece, for fruit like lemons or as a large dessert bowl.
