A highly collectable early piece of advertising kitchenalia dating from the early 20th Century.

Made by Doulton Burslem in England, these white ironstone shortbread moulds doubled up as an opportunity to also advertise the Brown & Polson "Paisley Flour". The black transfer print reads:

"BROWN & POLSON'S RAISING POWDER MAKES SHORTBREAD CRISP AND SHORT AND MORE EASY OF DIGESTION."

This piece displays well, but is equally usable for making your own homemade shortbread. The Doulton Burslem mark, in black, is printed on the rear of the plate.

This mould has an unusually rich patina, with light coffee coloured staining and crazing all over. There is also a fine hairline to the top rim, but this is tight and fine and the piece is still very usable.
