This is a listing for a beautiful antique early 20th Century ironstone oval serving dish, or what is known in France as a ravier. A total of two are available to purchase separately.
With a mark for renowned makers Gien on its underside, in the Magalore pattern, both plates are heavily timeworn and chippy which complements the decorative deep blue transferware pattern. The plates are both heavily stained from use, with a rich coffee coloured patination. This complements the blue transferware pattern beautifully.
Both plates have significant timeworn crazing and colouring, which is notable on both the top and underside of the plate. There are no cracks on the plates but there are scuffs and knocks to the top rims of each plate. These chips are old, though, and have discoloured along with the rest of the plates. There are also surface cracks to the glaze on both plates, but these haven't penetrated through.
