Antique Victorian Rare English Advertising Pot - Poulton & Noel Preparations

This is a listing for ONE rarely seen double sided Poulton & Noel’s potted meat advertising pot, dating from the 1890s. A total of two are available to choose from.

Both these English advertising pots have recently been dug from a Victorian dumping ground, and are examples of double sided advertising pots which are very hard to come across. On the front is a fabulous bannered logo for the Belgravian brand of Poulton & Noel’s homemade potted meat. The back of the pot gives details of the full range of Poulton & Noel’s English preparations, including rolled ox tongue, Belgravian pâtés and soups. The left pot is especially rare, being a little larger than most examples and also having blue rather than black underglazed transfer print.

Considered pieces of throwaway packaging at the time, they now have evidence of their life underground with some marks and staining. Both have crazing and staining. The larger pot on the left has more evidence of staining with a rusty coloured patina on the top hald of the pot and also some chips at the bottom of the pot. The pot on the right has some marks from where the transfer dripped during the glazing process and some light blurring to the text on the back, although it is still legible. There is also a crack to he glaze on the inside top rim but this does not penetrate all the way through the pot and it is still a sturdy piece. 

Both are wonderful rare pieces of antique advertising which would look lovely on display and would also make for a unique bud vase for those wanting to add a vintage or rustic look to their interior.
