This is a listing for a large example of the Victorian Dr Nelson's Improved Inhaler.
In excellent condition, it is an impressive size and is a fantastic decorative antique to have displayed in the home. with its fabulously decorated black detailing and lettering. They look particularly nice used for fresh or dried flowers.
This would have once been a stock item in a medicine cabinet, used to help with respiration. The black underglazed transfer print is particularly noteworthy, with different fonts used on each line of the name, including a hatched background for the Dr Nelson's brand name.
In very good condition, there are no chips or cracks. It should be noted that this was recovered from an old Victorian dumping ground and there is therefore a build up of residue and debris in the bottom of it from when it was last used and discarded. Despite soaking, this hasn't washed away and it isn't possible to photograph this but some of this can be seen in the entry points to the inside. This inhaler must therefore be used purely as a decorative piece.
