A nice example of a late Victorian housemaids tidy box, perfect for storage or decorative purposes around the home.

This treen housemaids bucket dates to the late 19th Century. Originally used by maids to carry cleaning equipment around the house, it is a sturdy large wooden box with a large cast iron handle.

In modern times, these still make excellent boxes to keep cleaning bottles and cloths tidy, but they are useful for any type of storage or, with a wonderful rich colouring, it’s also perfect simply for decorative purposes.

Originally, these boxes also had inner trays inserted in the top of them to keep smaller items organised. This is missing on this example, but this does widen the potential use of this antique bucket now.

The original case iron joins are in place around all four corners of this box.  There are some odd scratches and scuffs in places but the outside of the box has a lovely rich honey coloured patina to it. There is a small area where there are some old worm holes but the box has been treated.

Height, 19cm (43cm to top of handle); Langth, 35cm (25cm at base); Width, 29cm including handle (16cm at base)
