Antique Victorian Deeply Carved Butter Stamp - Acorn & Thistle Wedding Gift

A wonderful and rarely seen example of an antique Victorian carved butter stamp.

This butter stamp features intricate detailed carving of a thistle and acorn entwined together. As was common at the time, butter stamps would often be given as wedding presents. It is likely the recipients of this stamp were Scottish and English, the thistle symbolising Scotland and the acorn representing the English oak. 

Although the stamp itself is a little weathered and worn, with the border of the stamp a little faded and some marks and scuffs in places, the deep carving is still very clear and defined. It could be waxed to further enhance its appearance. 

There are also a few old worm holes on this stamp. These are mainly focused on the back but there is one on the edge of the carving. But the stamp has been treated and they don't detract from the stunning carving on the front.
