A rare example of a large 19th Century carved wooden flummery mould.
Made of beechwood, his mould features a rarely seen geometric pattern on its base. Designed for making flummery, this was a dessert popular at the time based on a combination of eggs, milk and sugar.
This mould has a lovely mellow honey coloured patina to it. Signs of age are evident in two cracks to the top rim of the mould, however these are stable and not significant. The mould could still be used, perhaps for butter. The outer casing of the mould has a nice turned finish near the base. Part of this has been sanded down to allow a hook to be added so this can be hung on display if desired.
Diameter, 12cm; Height, 8.5cm
