A rare example of a beautiful 19th Century carved wooden mould.
Carved from a single piece of wood, it is executed beautifully., with beautiful turned geometric inlaid details on the outer casing complementing the quality design on the inside of the mould. The inside features a beautiful geometric pattern with foliage and berries.
It's likely the mould was intended to be used to make flummery, a dessert popular at the time based on a combination of eggs, milk and sugar. But it could also have been used as a butter mould.
In excellent condition, the wood has a rich colour and patina. There are some light stains - possibly caused by drips of water - to the outer casing. But these aren't significant. It is a quality piece of Victorian kitchenalia, and would complement a country or rustic kitchen.
