Antique Timeworn Terre de Fer Bowl with Cockerel Decoration

A fabulous example of an antique French timeworn ironstone bowl, produced by Sarreguemines in the early 20th Century.

This is a striking decorative item. With a red spongeware border, the main focus of the bowl is a hand painted cockerel, which takes centre stage but which is also complemented by three cockerels featuring around the outside rim.

The bowl has a distinctive folk art feel to it , and is elevated by the rich timeworn staining and crazed patina all over. There is one small tight hairline on the top rim of the bowl, but it is otherwise in excellent condition.
