This is a beautiful white ironstone raised cake stand or compote dish, attractively decorated with a teal floral and bird pattern, dating from the early to mid 20th Century.
Sitting on a raised footed base, this compote dish stands out with its lovely teal coloured pattern, featuring birds and floral decoration, both on the main part of the bowl as well as the foot.
Footed compote dishes like this are great for use as a kitchen centrepiece, for fruit like lemons and limes, or as a smaller cake stand. Two sculpted handles feature on the plate and are useful for carrying this dish around.
In fair condition for its age, there is some light crazing and surface scratches to the main bowl of this dish. Most notably, the underside has suffered a small amount of damage. A chip to the underside of one corner of the plate has stained lightly through to one of the top handles. However, this adds to the aged effect and the chip cannot be seen when the dish is upright. There are also two hairline cracks and a further chip around the foot of the dish. One of these is not stable, however the dish is nonetheless still usable as a decorative item.
