This is a listing for a timeworn ironstone potted meat pot, advertising Seager’s of Ipswich.
Dating from the late 1800s/early 1900s, this is a rare antique advertising white ironstone pot for potted meat. It features a large and clear sepia light brown coloured transfer print logo for Seager’s butchers who were based in Ipswich. The coloured pots are harder to source. It reads:
"R SEAGER. CHICKEN & HAM. IPSWICH"
Considered a throwaway item at the time it was produced, this English advertising pot was salvaged from an old Victorian dump. And consequently it does bear some scars of its time underground.
There are no cracks or chips to the pot but there is stained crazing all over, meaning there are rusty coloured specs all over, as well as some wider areas of deeper coloured staining in places. However, the logo is still clearly visible on the front of the advertising pot, and it has a unique timeworn and appealing patina.
Width, 8.5cm
Height, 4cm
