Antique French Wooden Dough Board with Rustic Repair

A fabulous rustic and primitive piece, this large dough board has an amazing patina.

Dating from the mid 19th Century, this is a great chopping board to add an authentic country or farmhouse look to your interior. 

French in origin, this is a unique piece with the addition of a metal repair work to each side when the wood had previously split. These repairs are typical of the French approach, ensuring objects were repaired and could continue to be used wherever possible rather than being thrown away.  

In addition to the repair work, the board has taken on a weathered and worn look over the year, with wear to the handle and edges. There are stains and surface scratches from use, plus old filler can be seen where the repair was made. There are also a few odd staples in the board, perhaps used to keep it stable at other times. 

A perfect piece for display, or for use as a charcuterie or cutting board. The board doesn't sit perfectly flat, the result of the wood warping a little over time. But this adds to its charm.
