Antique French Signed and Dated Chateau Oil Painting

Aged and timeworn, this is nonetheless a very sweet example of a signed antique French oil painting, depicting the setting of a chateau on a cliff edge by a lake or sea.

Dating from 1940, this painting does show signs of its age with notable cracking to the surface of the paint all over, some pin holes and some small patches of loss. But these flaws do add a quaint charm to the piece, and the picture is still very attractive.

The scene evokes quite a moody scene, with dark foliage and waters in the foreground. Standing on top of a cliff edge, the chateau is quite foreboding.

Still a lovely piece.
